The two tasks remaining before real cleanup and grading can start are the completion of the headwall out at the street, and the rest of the riprap. The headwall building is going to be a mess. That part of the old pipe had leaks, and it rained hard last Thursday, so the ground here is soaked and very sloppy. In the next shot they are digging out the hole needed to build the 12 foot wide and 6 foot deep head box. There will be a formed funnel structure behind this that will ram the water into the 60" pipe. (Without this the pipe would not naturally fill.)

More of the same .. a real mess.

They took apart the trench box and are using the sides to keep this big hole from collapsing.

Here's that small bulldozer doing some grading and filling.

And to replace that large excavator that went away yesterday we got this smaller one in return.

Some more grading .. and some more chipping away frozen mud. Fun.

You can see that we have snow today.

More work on the headwall hole. They are trying to pump it out but the submersible pump they were using is not large enough. They would have replaced it with something larger today, but the combination of snow, very bad roads, and generally dismal working conditions caused everyone to leave about 1:00.

Here's another shot of riprap being arranged. This really went quickly.

One last shot before the pump was taken out and the workers left.

Here is the snow we had:
